Recently Viewed Movies July 2008

This is my first post about the recent movies i have seen.  I'm not looking to detail the movie just wanting to put in my two cents about the movies.

Step Brothers- I went and saw this movie on opening weekend, and i have to see that it lived up to all the hype and expectations that i had.  I absolutely loved this movie, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have done it again.  The plot was a bit random and some parts unexpected but thats what you get when these two make a movie.  No, not all the funny parts have been shown on the movie trailers, it has plenty of laughs to offer.  Be wary, this movie is crude, although i don't recall any T and A, but it does have alot of crude language and F bombs.  This movie got me anxious for the release of  "Pineapple Express".  I would suggest watching this one with the guys. Rating:R     My overall rating: 3.5 out of 5 Very Funny!!!

Dark Knight- I must start off by explaining that i am very bias against superhero movies, especially comic book stuff.  Following that, i thought the Dark Knight was excellent.  I was not too fond of the previous batman due to the fact that the bad guy wore a potato sack on his head, but Christian Bale did an excellent job, slightly overshadowed by the late Heath Ledger who was brilliant.  Heath Ledger made this movie, there is a reason Dark Knight is number one in the box office, its a great show.  I would suggest most anyone see this movie.  Christopher Nolan did an excellent job as the director, once again.   Rating:PG-13      My rating:4.5 out of 5

Mamma Mia- Yes, i did see this ABBA musical against my will, but to my surprise it was not as bad as i expected or wanted it to be.  The music is good, the performances are super cheesy(like when Meryl Streep is jumping on the bed) but i understand that it is a musical. I would not suggest this movie to guys, girls go see it, especially if you like ABBA.  The worst part about seeing this movie in the theater was all the movie patrons singing and dancing along with the music.   Rating:PG-13                My Rating: 2 out of 5

Mongol- My wife and I ventured up to salt lake to see this movie.  I had been anxious to see it.  This movie was good and informative.  I thought i was going to see a movie about the life of Genghis Kahn and his huge army and have awesome battle scenes, what i've come to expect in an epic movie. Instead i got a story about his early life and how he became a Kahn.  Overall it was a good movie, I would only suggest this movie to those who don't mind sub-titles.  Not the greatest foreign film that i have seen but a good one.
Rating:R      My Rating: 3 out of 5

I have seen plenty more movies but i must go, i'll be back with more soon.
